A Taste of Americana The Blacksburg Master Chorale opens their 20th season with a celebration of American composers and poets! Musical selections include songs from the Colonial Era’s Sacred Harp, Aaron Copland’s In the Beginning and Randall Thompson’s popular Frostiana, a set of seven country songs for men’s, women’s, and mixed chorus with texts by Robert Frost. The Blacksburg Children’s Chorale and the Blacksburg Master Singers are also featured. Get your copy of the Master Chorale’s cookbook, A Taste of Americana, for $10.00. Available at the door. October 27, 2007 Magnificat and Saint Nicolas The Master Chorale is excited to present a program that will delight children and adults alike! J.S. Bach’s tremendous Magnificat, composed for Christmas 1723, brings a thrilling vitality to the most popular of all the Gospel canticles. In addition, tenor Scott Williamson and the Blacksburg Children’s Chorale join the BMC for a dramatic performance of Benjamin Britten’s Saint Nicolas. This cantata, the composer’s first professional work intended primarily for amateur musicians, follows the life of the patron saint of children who is now commonly identified with Santa Claus. December 15, 2007 Messiah Sing-Along You are invited to join us for a great evening of musical fellowship, so dust off that old score and prepare yourself for the exhilarating choruses in Handel’s Messiah. Not a singer? Experience the fun as an audience member. The Blacksburg Children’s Chorale will open the event with delightful seasonal music. Note: A limited number of scores will be available to borrow on a first come basis. Tickets: Freewill donation. December 18, 2007 Ein deutsches Requiem The Blacksburg Master Chorale, Virginia Tech Choirs, and New River Valley Symphony Orchestra present Johannes Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem in remembrance of the Virginia Tech tragedy that took place on April 16, 2007. The text is extracted from the Luther Bible and provides comfort and consolation for the living. The concert's first half features The Marching Virginians performing a new concert band composition by Virginia Tech's Dr. James Sochinski. Tickets: $8.00 adults/$5.00 students and senior citizens.
